Bandish and Beyond...

For audiences and artists alike, the Hindustani word bandish literally translates to 'bound together', but in the classical arts, it refers to a finely defined and structured composition. Although bound by the rules of raga, rhythm, and verse, Kathak exponent Abhimanyu Lal's production takes the notion of the bandish a step further to explore more than what meets the eye.

The production Bandish and Beyond includes traditional Kathak compositions in Raag Bhopali, Bihag and Bhimpalasi, accompanied with Indian classical instruments. In a contemporary inclusion, Abhimanyu Lal will play the Western drums himself, creating a confluence that showcases the limitless possibilities of blending tradition with innovation.
